We’re looking for a team member to find, develop, and share customer stories, platform data and insights, and industry trends with media, while working alongside a variety of teams to make it happen. This person would connect storytelling and data/insights to all aspects of corporate communications—speaking engagements, brand and product launches, thought-leadership opportunities, executive social, trend stories, and other proactive and reactive features—to showcase Mailchimp’s customers and position Mailchimp as synonymous with small business success. This is a strategic and creative role with customers at the heart. 

The ideal candidate will have experience interpreting data, keeping an eye on trends, and having a journalistic sensibility to tell the right stories to the right audiences. The role requires initiative, strong writing, communication, and critical thinking skills, the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and work cross-functionally, flexibility, and a willingness to learn. You’ll have the opportunity to grow and develop customer and data PR programs and expand the overall capabilities of Mailchimp’s corporate communications. 

This position reports to the Senior Manager of Corporate Communications. The Corporate Communications team is part of the Communications and Corporate Affairs department which also includes Internal and Strategic Communications, as well as Corporate Citizenship and Public Affairs. 

What you'll do:

  • Source and tell compelling customer stories externally through earned media, executive speaking opportunities, and conferences/events, and work closely with marketing to amplify those stories across marketing channels such as .com, social, and paid media
  • Participate in or lead customer discovery calls and interviews to capture their story, onboarding customers for use across the business, maintain databases, talking points, and other customer documents  
  • Support development and execution of marketing communication campaigns, including reports, trend articles, bylines, and customer story profiles
  • Maintain and update data and stats for trend stories, thought leadership, PR opportunities, executive and marketing social, and brand and product launches.
  • Identify patterns and trends within data sets and developing compelling stories
  • Stay up to date on the latest news as it relates to small businesses, retail, economic forecasts, and marketing trends to connecting them with Mailchimp’s business
  • Build and maintain cross-functional relationships among communications, marketing, customer success, and data and analytics teams.
  • Foster long-term relationships with customers and serving as the point of contact for customer and data work within the corporate communications team 

We’d love to hear from you if you have: 

  • 6+ years of relevant communications, public relations, journalism, or marketing experience (in technology, B2B, or SaaS preferred)
  • Knowledge of current media landscape and headlines, with an eye for good stories, of-the-moment content, and trends
  • Proven ability to navigate and develop relationships with a broad group of teams to complete projects
  • Ability to understand and analyze data and insights to turn them into storytelling opportunities
  • Self-starter with experience managing projects from ideation to completion 
  • Understanding of the Mailchimp platform, our business, and brand
  • Interviewer skills and CRM experience a plus

*Mailchimp currently offers flexible and remote options in Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Washington. If you are unable to work from one of these registered locations, you will not be eligible for employment.

The minimum base salary for this role in Colorado is $96,000. For all other locations, base salary will vary by geographic market and will will be determined through the selection and assessment process for this role relative to your experience and our job qualifications.
